Eternal Sun

Funland, Cumbria’s sub-county dedicated to extreme leisure has a “Permanent Sun” policy, a measure taken to attract more visitors and increase tourism-based income thanks to guaranteed good weather. In order to achieve this, the authorities have set up a complex geo-engineering system to control the weather and maintain favourable conditions. The core component of the “Cumbrian Sunbelt” is a 70-mile-long strip of 17 offshore platforms from which cloud-seeding workers trigger rainfall brought by the Gulf Stream before it reaches the leisure areas. An audio recording, a set of photos, and three objects introduce the life and work of John Braithwaite, cloud-fighter for the Cumbrian Sunbelt.
